Question about semester fee transfer – Recipient name in English

Hello, I am an international student from China. When paying the semester fee via international bank transfer, my bank system only allows me to enter the recipient’s name in English.

The official template shows the recipient as “Universität Hamburg”. Since I cannot type the German character “ä,” can I write “University of Hamburg” instead? Or should I use “Universitaet Hamburg” (with “ae”)?

I just want to make sure the payment can be received correctly.

You can use both spellings.

Please note that your bank may charge a fee for international transfers. Banks usually deduct this fee from the amount transferred, which means that Uni Hamburg may not receive the semester contribution in full.

I have already made the transfer, but unfortunately my bank only allowed the “shared fee option (SHA).” I now realized that this may cause the university to receive less than the full amount of the semester contribution.

May I please ask what will happen in this case?

Will the university refund the payment and ask me to transfer the full amount again?

Or is it possible for me to simply pay the missing difference afterwards by another transfer?

Also, I would like to know if it is possible to pay the remaining amount in cash directly at the university, in case the shortfall is small.

It is not possible to pay the missing amount in cash directly at Uni Hamburg, independently of the amount.
