Re: International student
Dear Seif Baghdady,

The answer to your question depends on a number of factors. Here are two of the first things you should consider.

First, you have to choose a degree program. Please have a look here: https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/campuscen ... gebot.html.

A general requirement for studying at Universität Hamburg is your language proficiency in German. Universität Hamburg offers only first degree programs taught in German language. A prerequisite for the study of a degree program taught in German at Universität Hamburg is that you are proficient in German at level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Secondly, you must have your higher education entry qualification reviewed.

All foreign higher education entry qualifications have to be pre-checked before applying at Universität Hamburg via uni-assist and it has to be submitted by the application deadline here at Universität Hamburg. Therefore, our advice is to submit your documents as early as possible to uni-assist. Whether an IGSC is better than a certificate of the Egypt's national system is a question, which can only be answered directly by uni-assist. Please have a look at the “Check: Admission to University” on their website: https://www.uni-assist.de/en/tools/chec ... admission/.

For further information I recommend our website for international prospective students: https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/campuscen ... ional.html.

Best wishes,
Thomas Walter
Re: International student
I am also a student interested in studying at the University of Hamburg, specifically in the Psychology course.

I have a degree in business administration with a master's degree also in the area and would like to know the requirements to do my second degree there at the university.

I am Brazilian and I speak fluent English, Spanish and Portuguese. I have German level A1 and my studies are recognized by ANBIN.

What would be the steps to apply?

Thanks
Re: International student
Dear humberta,

Both our Bachelor's and Master's program in Psychology are only taught in German. A prerequisite for the study of a degree program taught in German at Universität Hamburg is that you are proficient in German at level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Therefore, an application for a degree program taught in German at Universität Hamburg cannot be successful at your current level of German language proficiency. The first step for you is therefore to improve your German skills. Detailed information about the level of German language proficiency required and about the certificates accepted by Universität Hamburg is provided here: https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/campuscen ... nisse.html.

Universität Hamburg does not offer any preparatory German courses. If you are planning to come to Germany in order to learn German, you can find information about that on the website of the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service): https://www.daad.de/deutschland/nach-de ... -language/. The DAAD also provides a database of German courses offered throughout Germany: https://www.daad.de/deutschland/studien ... rkurse/en/. Information on courses offered in Hamburg can be found via the following course portal: http://hamburg.kursportal.info.

If you are planning to acquire the necessary German language skills in your home country or in other countries, you can find information about that on the Goethe-Institute's website: https://www.goethe.de/en/spr/kup/kur/wwt.html.

Finally, we have all our degree programs on our website here: https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/campuscen ... gebot.html. If you sort by language in the last column, you will find all master's programs taught in English ("ENG"). Please note that our bilingual master's programs ("GER/ENG") also require German language skills at level C1.

Best wishes,

Thomas Walter
Re: International student
Thanks for the info.

Assuming I already have German C1 level. What would be the next steps?

Would I need to supplement my high school? Or is my background enough that I can graduate from psychology?

Best regards
Re: International student
Dear Humberta,

For general information on applying to the University of Hamburg, it may be useful to visit our online portal "International Guide": https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/campuscen ... guide.html.

Step-by-step instructions for the application procedure for international prospective students can also be found on our website: https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/campuscen ... hluss.html.

One of the first steps in this process is the verification of your documents in a preliminary documentation procedure (VPD) by uni-assist (University Application Service for International Students). Uni-assist checks your international certificates and notifies you when it sends your VPD whether your previous educational qualifications permit you to start studying in Germany or are recognized for your program of choice. Detailed information on this process can be found here: https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/campuscen ... ldung.html.

In other words, your high school diploma and all other degrees you have already obtained must be checked by uni assist to determine whether these documents are sufficient for studying at the University of Hamburg. You can get a first insight into whether your documents are sufficient in this section on uni-assist.de: https://www.uni-assist.de/en/tools/chec ... -admission.

Best regards,

Thomas Walter
