Hello,
I would like to apply for a Ph.D. in the Institute of English and American Studies at the University of Hamburg and I have some questions regarding the application. If you don't have answers to my questions, I will be glad if you can tell me the e-mail of the official who can help.
I was told to follow the following link.
https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/campuscen ... otion.html
There it says I need;
-university degree certificate
-tabular CV
-exposé of your doctoral project.
But I can't find what specific extra documents are needed for the applications regarding the Faculty of Humanities / the Institute of English and American Studies even though I click on the faculty's link. There are many other links but no list covering them all.
-What are all the documents that I need to submit?
-Will I need to use Stine online system to upload the documents?
-Do I have to post any hard copies of the documents?
-A professor from the Institute of English and American Studies agreed to be my supervisor. Do I need another professor to work with me or is one enough?
-I would like to start a Ph.D. in the fall of 2020? (It is called winter term there I guess?) So what is the deadline for application?
-How long does it take to find out if my application is successful or not?
I am looking forward to hearing back from you.
Best regards and thanks.
Dear buse,
When entering Universität Hamburg for a doctoral degree, there are two steps: admission and enrollment - as described on the page you are linking to. Admission is carried out by the faculty, enrollment is carried out by Campus-Center. So I can answer your questions about enrollment, but I cannot answer your questions about admission. The latter questions will have to be answered by the faculty. Contact data of the faculty are provided here: https://www.gwiss.uni-hamburg.de/en/stu ... tion.html (right side of the page)
2. No. You do not upload any documents via Stine. You send the documents needed for admission to the faculty and the documents needed for enrollment to Campus-Center by post or email.
3. Not for enrollment - sending documents via email suffices. Regarding admission you have to ask the faculty.
4. That is a question answered by the faculty as well.
5. There is no fixed deadline for enrollment. As for admission - ask the faculty.
6. If the faculty admits you, your application was successful. After that, enrollment is just a formality. So this is a question to be answered by the faculty as well.
I hope these preliminary answers are helpful. And I would be thankful if you could do me a favor: If you now turn to the faculty to get answers to the questions I could not answer, please send the link to this conversation to them with your inquiry. That way, they will know what you already know about enrollment, which will enable them to address your specific questions about admission better and with less expenditure
Best regards,
Birte Schelling

1. I suppose you are referring to the documents needed for admission, since the documents needed for enrollment are listed on the website you already read. So this is a question for the faculty.-What are all the documents that I need to submit?
