Dear LuisEspinosa,
1) "I am a student starting a master's program at the University of Hamburg in winter semester 2021/22 and I was told that my documents (including my semster contribution invoice and a TAN list for course registration) will be sent to me at the beginning of September by post."
There are only two possible scenarios (see
www.uni-hamburg.de/pe):
a) You have already given us a German address at the time when we send out the provisional semester documents (and the TAN list for STINE in a separate letter) at the beginning of September.
If this is the case, you will receive the provisional semester documents and the TAN list as paper documents via normal postal service.
b) You have not given us a German address at the time when we send out the provisional semester documents at the beginning of September.
Then you will receive an email with the TAN list instead of the paper TAN list.
The provisional semester documents (i.e. provisional public transport pass, provisional student ID) will be sent to you, once you have given us a German address. There is no digital version of either provisional public transport pass or provisional student ID, but you can't use these documents anyway if you are not here in Hamburg.
2) If you have already fulfilled all conditions for the completion of the enrollment process (paying the semester contribution and submitting all enrollment documents) than we skip the provisional semester documents, which are only valid for the month of October, and we send out the permanent semester documents instead, which are valid for the entire winter semester 2021/22.
3) "On the other hand, I would also like to know if I will be assigned some type of academic advising for the planning and registration of my courses."
Almost all departments or faculties of Universität Hamburg will offer a week of orientation activities ("Orientierungseinheiten" or "OE") for new students at the beginning of October, before the lecture period begins.
Usually the registration for classes is done in this OE and staff or older students will assist you in the registration process.
This is possible because there is a special registration period for first-year students like you who are in the first semester of the respective degree program:
"Registration period for first-semester students - Mon, 4 October 2021, 9 am to Thu, 7 October 2021, 4 pm" (see
https://www.stine.uni-hamburg.de/script ... ionperiods).
Please check the website of your department for information about the week of orientation activities for new students. Some departments also send out emails with the relevant information to new students.
I assume that most departments haven't completed the planning for the week of orientation activities of the winter semester yet. If you haven't found any information on the website until mid-September, I would advise you to contact the
academic office of your department directly and ask about the week of orientation activities.
4) "If you could, additionally, provide me with the links of the pages that contain information about the start of classes for incoming students, I would greatly appreciate it."
When classes begin for you depends on the individual classes for which you register. However, the lecture period, i.e. the period of the semester in which classes take place, begins on October 11, 2021 (see
https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/campuscen ... 9859643004). Therefore, your first classes will be held the week beginning October 11, 2021.
Best wishes
Thomas Walter
