Dear Sir/Madam,
I'm going to start my studies in the upcoming winter semester 2021-22 for Master of science in physics (English). As the registration phase for the courses is ending tomorrow, am I supposed to register now or is there a separate registration phase for first year students?
Also, is there any orientation program conducted by the department of physics?
Thank you.
Kind regards,
Sivasruthi K
Dear Sivasruthi K,
1) "As the registration phase for the courses is ending tomorrow, am I supposed to register now or is there a separate registration phase for first year students?"
2) "Also, is there any orientation program conducted by the department of physics?"
At Universität Hamburg, each department is responsible for such orientation weeks (in German: "Orientierungseinheiten" or "OE") for the new students in their programs.
I could not find any information about an orientation week especially for your degree program "M.Sc. Phyics" on the websites.
I would suggest that you contact either the team responsible for the orientation week or the academic office of the physics department directly to get this information.
Best wishes
Thomas Walter

Since you will be in the first semester of your program, the Registration period for first-semester students is the correct registration phase for you.For students who are beginning their studies at Universität Hamburg for the first time, as well as for students changing the degree program and for students in the first master semester, the registration period for first-semester students applies.
