Academic leave

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am posting this topic to ask if it is possible for me to apply for a two-semester-long academic leave before I start my first-year master course at Hamburg. I got a chance to take a one-year visit to one university in my home country and study some courses there. I already submitted my application on the STiNE system but so far there is no feedback. I will be appreciated if you could let me know if the academic leave application like my case is usually approvable or not and which department of the university is in charge of this issue.

I have not paid my semester fee to complete my enrollment yet, if it is the precondition for my application, I would like to complete my enrollment first (I will receive my paper version bachelor diploma by the end of this October, then I will submit a scanned copy of it as soon as possible. I can not submit my German health insurance certificate so far, because I am not able to buy any German health insurance until I enter Germany next October).

Best wishes,
Tangdi Luan

Dear Tangdi,

Applying for an academic leave is only possible in the first semester under special circumstances, as the students have to start their studies first. In addition, you have to be enrolled in order to be able to apply for an academic leave. The requirement for this is the receipt of the semester contribution and the receipt of all required documents such as proof of your health insurance.

If you would like to start your studies in your home country first, you should consider whether it would not be better to apply again next year at Uni Hamburg in order to avoid the costs.

Best regards,
BK
