Language Requirement for PhD

Dear Uni Hamburg Forum,

I am in the process of applying for a visa for my PhD in informatics department, and my program is in English. I noticed that one page on the university's website states that no language proof is required, while another mentions that a B1 level in English is needed.

could you kindly confirm weather B1 is sufficient, or if a higher level (B2 or C1) is required?

Dear Shahrzad,

there is no universal language requirement for all PhD programs at University of Hamburg. The language requirements for the different PhD programs are determined by the bylaws of the different departments.
