My name is Mo, and I am interested in the Master’s program Aufbauqualifikation Lehramt für die Sekundarstufe I und II (AQ LASek) at the University of Hamburg with Sport as my teaching subject.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, USA), which has already been recognized by the Kultusministerium. I currently live in Hamburg and have C1-level German proficiency.
I have the following questions:
1. Comparability of degree: Is a B.Sc. in Kinesiology from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo considered comparable to the teaching subject Sport for admission to the AQ LASek? What documents would I need to submit for the comparability review (Vergleichbarkeitsprüfung)?
2. Suspension of Sport: According to current information, Sport is suspended for the winter semester 2026. From when can applicants expect to apply for Sport again? Is winter semester 2027 a realistic expectation?
3. Special entry requirements for Sport: What are the specific entry requirements for the Sport subject? Is the DRSA Silber (lifesaving certificate) required, for example, and are there practical sports aptitude tests?
4. Part-time study: Is it possible to complete the AQ LASek on a part-time basis, for example alongside employment? If so, how does this affect the mandatory practical placements?
5. Foreign degree: Are there any special requirements or additional documentation needed for applicants holding a US university degree?

"Wenn die Bezeichnung des Fachs, das Sie studiert haben, nicht exakt einer der Bezeichnungen der oben genannten Fächern entspricht, erfolgt im Rahmen der Bewerbung eine inhaltliche Vergleichbarkeitsprüfung. Dazu müssen Sie in der Online-Bewerbung zusätzlich zu Ihrem Transcript of Records bzw. Abschlusszeugnis Nachweise hochladen, aus denen die Inhalte Ihres Studiums hervorgehen. Ein idealer Nachweis ist ein Modulhandbuch Ihres vorherigen Studiengangs. Sollte Ihnen kein Modulhandbuch vorliegen, können alternativ Studien- oder Prüfungsordnungen oder Leistungsnachweise (bei Studiengängen des alten Systems z.B. Scheine) hochgeladen werden. Bei mehreren Nachweisen fügen Sie diese bitte in ein PDF-Dokument zusammen und laden Sie es unter dem Punkt "Modulhandbuch" hoch.

4. There is no official guidline against working part time during your studies. The specifics would have to be discussed with your academic office.
