Hello everyone,

I recently applied for an exemption from the semester ticket because I already receive a public transport ticket through my employer.

Yesterday, I received a rejection stating that my application cannot be approved because I already obtain a ticket from my employer. This reasoning confuses me, as that is exactly why I applied for the exemption in the first place.

What makes the situation even more confusing is that I have not yet paid my semester contribution, including the €226.80 semester ticket fee. Therefore, I would like to understand what the correct procedure is in this case.

- Is an exemption from the semester ticket possible if an employer already provides a ticket?
-Is there another process that I should follow to avoid paying for two tickets?

Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated.

I agree, the phrasing of the rejection letter is rather irritating. The reason for the rejection of your application is not that you already have a ticket, but rather that your reason is not included in the final list of accepted reasons (see: https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/campuscen ... icket.html )
We will look into rephrasing it.

I would suggest to ask your employer, if you can quit your ticket with them.

Thank you for your reply and for clarifying the reason for the rejection.

However, I do not think withdrawing my employer-provided ticket is a practical solution.

I applied for the exemption because my employer already provides and covers a public transport ticket as part of my employment benefits. In order to apply for the exemption, I committed to the JobTicket arrangement with my employer, and the process has already been implemented.

As a result, for at least October, I would have to pay both for the employer ticket and for the semester ticket. This seems contrary to the purpose of avoiding duplicate transport costs.

Furthermore, the JobTicket is an employment benefit that I am entitled to receive through my employer. I therefore do not understand why I would be expected to give up this benefit and instead pay for another ticket myself.

My understanding was that, in this situation, I would still pay the other mandatory components of the semester contribution, but would be exempt from the semester ticket portion. Based on the contribution notice, this would mean paying only the remaining EUR 24.20 rather than the additional EUR 226.80 semester ticket fee.

Could you please clarify why this is not possible in my case? I would also appreciate it if you could advise whether there is any alternative solution that would prevent me from having to pay twice for public transport.
