Dear Sir/ Madam,
I am currently studying translation in Hong Kong. I am in my second year of the study and I am going to study in Austria as an exchange student for the academic year 2017/2018.
First, I would like to inquire about the qualifications required by this course, especially the particular average of acceptance.
Second, I would like to specify to my case. As I am a translation student, but since the course languages in Hong Kong are Chinese and English, will it be possible to transfer the credits that I have earned before? Besides, since I am going to study in Austria, will it be possible to transfer the credits that I have earned in Austria?
Third, I am also interested in studying Business Economics. As I have studied business in high school and also I have completed some business courses in my university, can I apply for the business economics course? If not, if I plan to study business course in Austria during my exchange study, will it be possible to apply for the business course in Hamburg University?
Thank you for your kind attention. I look forward to receiving your response.
Yours sincerely,
Janice
Dear Janice,
Since you inquire about the possibilty of transfer of credits, I assume that you are not intending to apply for a master program after you finiish your degree in Hong Kong, but want to transfer to the bachelor program in Linguistics offered by Universität Hamburg. If this assumption is not correct, please write to me again, since then the following information won't be correct.
To apply to Universität Hamburg as an international applicant, you need to have your documents checked in a "preliminary documentation" procedure by uni-assist e. V. (University Application Service for International Students). uni-assist determines whether your previous educational qualifications permit you to start studying in your program of choice in Germany. Detailed information about this procedure is provided here: https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/campuscen ... dung.html
Since the bachelor programs offered by Universität Hamburg are taught in German, you need to provide proof of German language proficiency to be admitted. Detailed information about the level of German language proficiency required and about the certificates accepted by Universität Hamburg is provided here: https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/campuscen ... nisse.html
Apart from those two conditions there are no special qualifications required to be admitted to the program B.A. Linguistics. To answer your question about the average of acceptance for the program, I need to know what nationality you are, since there are different answers for applicants from EU and non-EU countries.
A transfer of credits is possible if the contenst of the courses you took in Hong Kong and will take in Austria are equivalent to those you have to take in the Linguistics program at Universität Hamburg. The teaching language of the courses is not relevant.
Universität Hamburg does not offer a degree program in Business Economics. At the bachelor level, we offer programs in Business Administration and in Economics. You can find information about those programs here:
Business Administration: https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/campuscen ... 1027509612
Economics: https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/campuscen ... 1029248148
I am sorry that the information on the web pages is not available in English – the reason for this is that those programs are taught in German and therefore require German language proficiency. You can find further information about the German language requirements following the link in the information about required German language proficiency above.
The admission requirements fpr those programs are the same as for Linguistics. So you do not have to take courses in business in advance to be eligible for those programs.
Best regards,
Birte Schelling
