Dear Sir or Madam,
I am an international student enrolled at the University of Hamburg, MIBAS program. The studies commence in Winter semester 2020/2021. On Friday last week I received a confirmation from MIBAS.WiSo@uni-hamburg.de saying that the studies and exams will take place in digital form and that my presence in Hamburg will not be necessary until the 31st of March 2021.
One of the requirements to complete the enrollment to MIBAS is insurance coverage, confirmation of which should be provided to the University until the end of October 2020 (please, correct me if I am wrong).
Since I will not be coming to Hamburg at least until March next year, I would like to ask you if it is possible not to provide the confirmation of insurance for this period of time and, if studies are to be held in-class starting from the next semester, provide it by then? Would it affect my enrollment and participation in the lectures?
Looking forward to your reply.
Thank you,
Anastasiia
Dear Anastasiia,
If you plan to study online while remaining in your home country, you do not need a certificate of health insurance. Please send us a written confirmation that you will study online and do not plan to enter Germany during winter semester 2020/21 via this form: https://www.uni-hamburg.de/kontakt-cc We will then enroll you without proof of health insurance - your enrollment and participation in lectures will not be affected. Please also get into contact with the department of socioeconomics about your digital studies, if you have not already done so: https://www.wiso.uni-hamburg.de/en/stud ... mibas.html
If you enter Germany at a later time, you will have to take out insurance as soon as possible, the exemption only lasts while you remain abroad. We therefore do not recommend to enter Germany during winter semester 2020/21 at a later time if you have decided to study online now, since you might be required to take out insurance and pay for it from the beginning of your enrollment then.
Regulations regarding insurance with respect to coming to Germany for continuing your studies here in summer semester 2021 have not been cleared up yet - I am sorry that therefore I cannot give you any information regarding that right now.
Best regards,
Birte Schelling
