Dear Campus Center,
I am currently studying MSc Financial Economics in the Otto-Von-Guericke University of Magdeburg. I am starting my second semester in one week. This is a list of all the credits that I passed:
- Econometrics - Macroeconomic Analysis- Microecononmic Analysis - Foundations for Finance - Academic Methods, Quantitative Approaches.
And this is the list of all credits I am planning to pass this semester:
- Behavioral Finance - Financial Engineering - Financial Institutions - Company Valuation - Computational Finance (Seminar) - Stochastic Processes.
Can I transfer my credits to pursue the last year of my Master's degree in the University of Hamburg?
Thank you for your assistance.
Salma
Dear Salma,
1) At Universität Hamburg you apply for the first semester of a master's program, not for a higher subject semester, which is only possible for bachelor's program.
You have to apply and receive an admission before you can enroll at Universität Hamburg.
Please read the general information regarding an application for a master's program at Universität Hamburg for international prospective students: https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/campuscen ... aster.html.
It is important to understand that at Universität Hamburg the various departments and faculties are responsible for the admission requirements, selection criteria as well as the application process for their master's programs. You have to read the specific application information for a program before you apply.
2) Achievements from your previous studies (i.e. credit points) can be credited to you for studies at the Universität Hamburg, provided that they are equivalent to the ones in your chosen master's program at the Universität Hamburg. You can first assess for yourself whether this is the case by looking at the study program. Links to these documents can be found in the description of the master's programs.
Subsequent questions regarding the creditability of specific achievements must be addressed directly to the academic office of the departments or faculty responsible for the degree program.
Please note, however, that at the Universität Hamburg you will only receive binding recognition of your prior achievements after you have been enrolled. For some program you can get a non-binding pre-assessment regarding the recognition before you apply, but a binding recognition will only be made once you are enrolled. It would be helpful if you could send more detailed information regarding the achievements to be recognized with your request, such as a link to the study regulations according to which the achievements were made.
Best wishes,
Thomas Walter
