Dear team,
I have been admitted to the MSc Physics (English) program at the University of Hamburg and I am an international student from India.
I have a few questions regarding the enrollment process:
Required Documents: In my case, the only highlighted documents are the degree certificate and language certificate. I had already submitted the language certificate during the application process. As per the information provided, I understand that the degree certificate can be submitted by the end of the first semester. Does this mean I can complete the enrollment now without submitting any new documents?
Health Insurance Confirmation: By when do I need to confirm my health insurance status with the university? Is it something that is generally done before arriving in Hamburg, or after arrival? Since enrollment will not be completed until this is done, I’m concerned about whether I will receive my semester documents on time.
Dear prakriti,
1) Please read the checklist of enrollment for an "International Master’s Degree Programs": https://www.uni-hamburg.de/campuscenter ... tional.pdf.
2) "Does this mean I can complete the enrollment now without submitting any new documents?"
That is correct.
As stated in the checklist for the "International Master’s Degree Programs", there is only one of the 17 International Master's degree programs, for which any additional enrollment documents have to be submitted (by some applicants) at the time of enrollment, i.e. the "M.A. Peace and Security Studies".
For all other International Master's degree programs (including "M.Sc. Physics"), the only enrollment document is the degree certificate, which can be submitted until the end of the first master semester (March 31, 2026) if it is not already available at the time of enrollment.
3) "By when do I need to confirm my health insurance status with the university?"
a) There is no deadline.
However, since you only receive the proof of enrollment (i.e. the so-called 'semester certificate') and your semester ticket once the enrollment process is complete (see www.uni-hamburg.de/pe), and proof of health insurance is a necessary condition for completing the enrollment process (see www.uni-hamburg.de/kven), I would advise taking care of the health insurance issue before the semester begins, so that we have the necessary electronic notification from a German public health agency before the semester begins on 1 October. We understand that this is not always possible. Nothing negative will happen if we do not get the necessary electronic notification by 1 October. However, you will receive some documents a little later than usual.
b) We as the University of Hamburg do not offer any counseling or advice regarding the issue of health insurance.
If you require additional information or counselling, please contact the "Counselling Centre for Social & International Affairs – BeSI" of the "Studierendenwerk Hamburg", which is responsible for this topic: https://www.stwhh.de/en/counselling/cou ... fairs-besi. Thank you.
Best wishes
Thomas Walter
