Enquiry regarding admission to the M.Sc. Chemistry programme

Dear Sir/Madam,

My name is Safdar and I am currently enrolled as an M.Sc. student in Environmental Engineering at the Leibniz University Hannover (Ludwig-Franzius-Institute). I hold a B.Tech. in Civil Engineering and have around four years of professional experience as a civil, QA/QC and site engineer.

I am very interested in the M.Sc. Chemistry programme at the University of Hamburg and would be grateful if you could help me with a few questions before I prepare an application for the [Winter Semester 2026/27] intake.

1. Entry requirements: Would my B.Tech. in Civil Engineering, together with the modules I have already completed in my current Master's programme, be considered as meeting the subject-specific entry requirements for the M.Sc. Chemistry? If not, is there a route via preparatory or supplementary modules?

2. APS certificate: As I am already enrolled at a German university and my degree documents have already been verified for that enrolment, could you kindly tell me whether an APS certificate is still required in my case, or whether an exemption applies?

3. English language proof: My IELTS certificate has expired. Could you please confirm whether a new IELTS or comparable certificate is required, and whether proof of English proficiency obtained during my ongoing studies in Germany could be accepted instead?

4. Recognition of credits: Would it be possible to have credits from my current M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering recognised towards the M.Sc. Chemistry, and if so, to whom should I submit the module descriptions for assessment?

first of all: the application deadline for the winter semester 26/27 his program was 31.03.2026.
The next application period starts 15.02.2027.

1. Please check the following country specific info if anything applies:

An APS certificate does NOT need to be submitted at this time (I used India as an example)
- if the highest-value relevant academic qualification is from a country other than India,
- if there is proof of already passing an assessment examination ("Feststellungsprüfung", please upload your FSP certificate in the recognition portal),
- if the applicant is already in receipt of a scholarship from Germany or the EU (please upload relevant proof in the recognition portal).
However, if a German university has doubts about the authenticity of the Indian certificates or requires an APS certificate due to an internal university agreement, it can request this from the applicants in these cases as well.
