Question about Marine Biology ECTS requirement – M.Sc. Marine Ecosystem and Fisheries Science

Dear Admissions Team,

My name is Liz Emily Alcívar Astudillo, and I am a biologist from Ecuador. I am interested in applying to the M.Sc. Marine Ecosystem and Fisheries Science at the University of Hamburg for the winter semester 2027/2028.

I am currently preparing my application for the DAAD Study Scholarships for STEM Disciplines, and I would like to clarify one admission requirement before listing the programme among my preferred master’s programmes.

I understand that applicants with a bachelor’s degree different from Marine Ecosystem and Fisheries Science must demonstrate at least 72 ECTS in natural sciences, including 50 ECTS in Biology, 10 ECTS in Marine Biology, 6 ECTS in Chemistry and 6 ECTS in Data Science.

My degree is a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL), Ecuador. My official ECTS certificate shows a total of 206.42 ECTS. Although my transcript does not include a course specifically named “Marine Biology”, I completed several relevant courses and research components, including Aquatic Ecology, Invertebrate Zoology, Vertebrate Zoology, Biogeography, General Ecology, Ecosystem Ecology, Research I, Research II and Biology Capstone Course. In addition, my undergraduate thesis was an experimental field study in rocky intertidal marine communities.

Could you please let me know whether these courses and my undergraduate thesis could be considered toward the 10 ECTS Marine Biology requirement? Also, would it be useful to provide additional documents such as course syllabi, a thesis abstract or a supervisor’s letter?
