Hello,
My name is Rose Al-Ani. I have finished high-school in Jordan with an average of 84.4(science approach) and I have no idea how the higher education system works in German, that means how to apply, where and what are the exact requirements to be eligible to study in Germany.
I also would like to know the specific path and actions I need to do in order to be able to study medicine in Germany specifically at the University of Hamburg and I would appreciate it If you informed me about the fees that needs to be paid too.
And one last question, is the pre-semester prep course mandatory for international students ? How much does it cost exactly ? And is it available in the winter semester ?
I will pray to whomever answers my questions because the answers will help me a great great deal !
Thank you very much.
Dear Rose,
The way you have to apply for medicine at Universität Hamburg depends on whether you are considered "equivalent" to German applicants. Applicants deemed "equivalent" to German applicants are:
• applicants with a German higher education entry qualification
• citizens of member countries in the European Union or Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway
• applicants who are not citizens of an EU country, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein but whose family members are and who are employed in Germany
If any of the above apply to you, you need to apply via "hochschulstart.de": http://www.hochschulstart.de You can find further information about this way to apply here: https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/campuscen ... start.html
If none of the above apply to you, you have to apply using Universität Hamburg’s online application portal: https://www.uni-hamburg.de/onlinebewerbung The application period for medicine runs from June 1st to July 15th of every year. After sending your online application you have to send your documents via regular mail to Universität Hamburg. Detailed information about how to apply for international applicants is provided here: https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/campuscen ... chelor.pdf
In any case, you need to acquire recognition of your higher education entry qualification as well as proof of sufficient German language skills, since medicine is taught in German only at Universität Hamburg. Information about the procedure to acquire recognition of one's higher education entry qualification is provided here: http://www.uni-hamburg.de/campuscenter/ ... ung_e.html Information about the needed German language proficiency and about the language certificates accepted by Universität Hamburg can be found here: http://www.uni-hamburg.de/campuscenter/ ... sse_e.html
The pre-sememster preparatory course is not mandatory for international students at Universität Hamburg. It is only offered in the summer semester. The fee for it amounts to the semester contribution: https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/campuscen ... itrag.html
